POLICE LOG: New York Man Arrested on Drug Charges Near School

An excerpt from the Woburn Police Department's March 15 police log.

The following is an excerpt from the  log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

March 15 –

  • At 9:32 a.m., a teacher reported her car vandalized on Friday while it was parked on Lakeview Terrace. Police observed that the car appeared to have been “keyed.”
  • At 9:57 a.m., police responded to Barbara Circle for a report of a loose dog in the neighborhood. According to police, a patrolman and the animal control officer arrived on scene and found the dog playing with children in the neighborhood. The dog’s owner admitted the pooch had gotten out of his yard, but said he would not allow the dog to escape again. Police reported the dog appeared very friendly.
  • At 10:02 a.m., a Woburn woman reported a former boyfriend is harassing her.
  • At 11:29 a.m., a maintenance man at a vacant Cabot Road building reported someone had previously broken into the building and stole 140-feet of copper piping, including the water main that was attached and belonged to the city of Woburn. Police believe someone entered the building by prying the electric latch on the door jamb. The theft occurred sometime between Friday at 6 p.m. and Tuesday at 12 p.m.
  • At 12:15 p.m., police responded to Merrimac Street for a report of tree/brush dumping in a vacant property. The woman caring for the property told police she would like it removed and that it did not come from her property. A neighbor offered to take the wood.
  • At 5:02 p.m., a Burlington woman reported her passenger side car window smashed and her pocketbook stolen from her vehicle while it was parked at the on Elm Street.
  • At 5:39 p.m., a Nicholas Colby Jewett, 19, of 45 Marlboro Road, was arrested and charged with possession to distribute a Class D substance subsequent offense and possession of a Class B susbstance. According to police, an officer was working a routine patrol at the 7-11 on Cambridge Road when he observed a car pull into the lot. The officer observed Jewett manipulating a brown paper with a green leafy substance. Jewett was placed under arrest.
  • At 5:45 p.m., Jeremiah Charles, 26, of New York state, was arrested and charged with possession to distribute a Class B substance (oxycodone, marijuana) and a drug violation near a school/park. Police were dispatched to 121 Main St. for a report of two men harassing a woman. When officers arrived, they found two men and a woman in the 121 Main St. garage and a strong odor of freshly-burnt marijuana. While speaking to the involved parties, officers found in plain view in a parked car at the home, a backpack with several scales, glassine bags and marijuana residue. Police also found several oxycodone pills. Charles was placed under arrest. According to police, the oxycodone was valued at $10,000. The scales, baggies, drugs, a Gerber machete and over $1,500 in cash was also seized as evidence.
  • At 7:46 p.m., police responded to Cambridge Road for a report of a past breaking and entering in which a Mac Powerbook was stolen.
  • At 8:40 p.m., police were dispatched to a Kilby Street apartment building for a neighbor complaint. According to police, a woman reported hearing “water leaking” and believed it was coming from her refrigerator. The woman checked the fridge and did not see any water. She then opened her apartment door and saw a neighbor standing in the hallway. According to police, the woman stated the rug was wet where he was standing and she assumed he urinated in the hallway. Police attempted to speak to the man, but he refused to answer his door.
  • At 10:25 p.m., Derek Mark Ryder, 25, of 179 Mt. Vernon St. in Malden, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $250, resisting arrest, possession of burglarious instruments and two counts of taking and stealing parts from a motor vehicle. .
