POLICE LOG: Unknown Man Reportedly Likes Gas

An excerpt from the WPD police log. The following arrest information was supplied by the Woburn Police Department. The arrest does not indicate a conviction.

March 22 – At 4:14 p.m., an officer responded to a Sylvan Road parking lot for a report of suspicious activity. According to police, a man was seen driving around the parking lot and looking under the hood of his car. When approached, the man reportedly asked several questions about the hydrogen and nitrogen gas tanks in the lot. Police said, the man ended the conversation by saying, “I like gas.” Police were unable to identify the man, who had already left the log before police were called.

March 22 –

At 8:47 a.m., Kenneth D. Hicks, 45, of 8 Capozzi Circle, was arrested and charged with assault and battery (domestic). According to police, Hicks was wanted for a crime that occurred in Everett. Police began searching for Hicks after Everett Police reported he may be driving to Woburn. Police saw Hicks and attempted to stop him on Salem Street near Pine Street. Hicks was found hiding under a porch on Pine Street, said police. He was taken into custody and booked in Woburn. He was then turned over to Everett Police.

At 10:25 a.m., a Woburn woman reported a possible scam. According to police, the woman and her business partner purchased paper online through a paper company. After paying over $7,000 and receiving invoices for the paper, they never received it, said police.

At 12:25 p.m., an employee of Appleseed’s in the Woburn Mall reported her iPod stolen from her desk.

At 2:53 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident at Wilcox Circle and Main Street.

At 3:38 p.m., police were dispatched to a two-car accident at the Route 38/128 rotary. According to police, one car rear-ended another on the off-ramp.

At 4:19 p.m., police responded to a report of a three-car accident on Lexington Street near Grace Road. According to police, a group of wild turkeys were crossing the street, forcing cars to stop for them. When one car stopped, two others collided, causing the three-car crash.

At 4:19 p.m., a Woburn woman reported an ex-boyfriend was sending her harassing text messages, calling her vulgar names. Police advised the woman to obtain a restraining order and are attempting to locate the suspect.

At 6:06 p.m., police were called to a Salem Street residence for a report of a loud fight. When police arrived, the officer heard a couple yelling. He entered the home and separated the couple, said police. Officers spoke to both people involved, who said it was a verbal argument only over “relationship issues.”

At 6:48 p.m., a Middle Street resident reported his rental car damaged while it was parked on the street. The car’s windshield was smashed, said police.

At 6:49 p.m., an Olde Farm Road resident reported her rear driver’s side door window completely removed from her vehicle.

At 7:06 p.m., Marie Anne Mantica, 56, of 20 Poole St., was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence of liquor and failure to use care and caution. According to police, officers were dispatched to a two-car accident on Arlington Road. When police arrived, they found Mantica “unsteady on her feet” and her eyes were “glassy and watery.” Police asked Mantica to perform field sobriety tests, which she reportedly failed. Mantica was taken into custody and police confiscated a bottle of vodka from her purse.

At 10:31 p.m., a Stoneham man reported his car damaged while it was parked in a lot on Main Street.
