Police: Woburn Shooting Stemmed From Argument Over $10 Debt

A 28-year-old Dorchester man is accused of shooting a 43-year-old man twice in the legs.

WOBURN, MA -- A 28-year-old Dorchester man is facing charges following a shooting in Woburn early Saturday morning that Woburn Police says started over an argument about a $10 debt. Asa Cooper, 28, of Dorchester is being held without bail and will be arraigned Tuesday in Woburn District Court on charges of assault and batter with a dangerous weapon causing injury. assault with intent to murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of a firearm without a license and illegal possession of ammunition.

Police were called to Highland Street just after midnight Saturday for a report of shots fired. There they found a 43-year-old Woburn man with gunshot wounds to his legs. The victim was taken to a hospital with what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses said they were approached by a group of people, including Cooper, in a minivan with the business name "One Call" on the side and school bus signage. They said an argument over a $10 debt ended with Copper shooting the victim multiple times.

Stoneham Police stopped the van on Interstate 93 a short time later. Police said that a weapon has not been recovered and that the investigation is ongoing.
