Woburn Traffic Commission Endorses Update to 81-Year-Old Code
Woburn's Traffic Code is still operating primarily off of rules set in 1935.

WOBURN, MA—Woburn City Clerk William Campbell’s drafted Traffic Code updating the city’s current 81-year-old traffic code is gaining more steam in City Hall.
The Woburn Traffic Commission unanimously endorsed Campbell’s new traffic code during a public hearing held last Thursday. The new rules would replace those originally set in 1935.
Campbell told Woburn Patch that the The Massachusetts Department of Transportation may have to approve the new code due to the overninght winter parking ban and a parade permit regulation.

Campbell told Patch that the code may be sent to MassDOT for clarification, and if necessary, approval.
MassDOT does not need to approve local codes if the city uses their recommended standard code. Woburn’s new code reflects the standard code except for those additional regulations.

The new code will be sent to City Hall for approval, and upon approval, May Scott Galvin has the authority to approve the City Council vote.
“Not only is the document important for city officials, but maybe more importantly for the motoring public so that they know with certainty the rules of the road,” Campbell told Patch.”The city can also use the document to be certain that signs posted on the roadways are consistent with the regulations approved by the Traffic Commission.”
