The Results Are In: What's The Worst Intersection In Woburn?

We asked readers to tell us what are the worst intersections for drivers in Woburn and they told us. Boy, did they tell us.

WOBURN, MA -- Want to run for elected office in Woburn? Then it's all but required you promise to do something about the traffic that seems to get worse in the city with each passing rush hour. And we're not talking earlier this week, when heavy rains left some of Woburn's busiest roads flooded and impassable. We're just talking about a typical day.

We asked Woburn readers to tell us about the most dangerous and most aggravating roads and intersections in town. And we didn't just want to hear about the obvious ones: Four Corners, Washington Street during rush hour and, while not technically an intersection, the I-93 and I-95 cloverleaf. More than 50 people offered opinions, thoughts and warnings on the Woburn Patch Facebook page. We learned some residents call Green Street "the Woburn Turnpike," everyone hates taking a lefthand turn at the intersection of Cambridge and Bedford Road and most people feel the problem is getting worse

"So many intersections, so little time," wrote Paula Matthews before nominating Mishawaum and Olympia Avenue and the lights that get people in and out of the Stop & Shop parking lot near exit 35 on Interstate 95 as two of bigger traffic headaches in town.

Our readers also had advice elected officials if they want to make good on their promise to fix traffic: stop approving new buildings in Woburn. "It's too late to fix Woburn's traffic -- the town got so greedy and kept on building until it got out of control. Now you worry about the traffic," Linda Lee McDermott told us

"Ahh screw the roads -- let the city keep approving housing projects," Mike Cudoni added. "Keep bringing people to our town without building up local infrastructure is the Woburn way! Has been for years."
