Scam Alert: Massachusetts State Police Warn Of Impersonators

Callers claim to be members of the state police and ask for money.

WOBURN, MA — Woburn Police shared a warning Thursday from the Massachusetts State Police, about an ongoing scam. The state police warned that callers are claiming to be members of their agency, or affiliated with, and ask for money. These calls are fraudulent, the agency said.

The State Police are not conducting any fundraisers and do not conduct phone solicitations for anything," the warning reads. "If you get such a call, please hang up."

They go on to urge not to provide personal or financial information to anyone who calls solicitiong money, "for any purpose, claiming to be from any source." Instead, if it's a cause you support, check with the Massachusetts Secretary of State's Corporation Division at (617) 727-9640, to make sure the organization is legitimate.
