Stoneham Man Charged With Stealing Car

The suspect said he wanted to go to New Hampshire.

Woburn Police arrested a Stoneham man on Tuesday after he allegedly stole a car in hopes of going to New Hampshire.

At 4:19 p.m., police arrested Christopher James Silva, 32, 24 San Jose Terrace, Stoneham, and charged him with larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Police received a report of a stolen car in the Main Street/Green Street area. The car’s owner left the car running and went into a business. When he exited the business, he heard the sound of screeching tires and his black Saab 900 convertible leaving the area.

Police spotted the car on Montvale Avenue, pulled over the vehicle and apprehended the suspect. Police recovered a number of items in the car that didn’t belong to the car’ owner, including wire cutters and pliers.

Police spoke to Silva, who reportedly said he made a “stupid mistake” and “just wanted to go to New Hampshire.” He saw the car running and decided to take the car, he said.
