Tewksbury's Discount Madness Closing This Summer

The family-owned, discount retailer blames slow sales for the closure, which will come this summer.

May, when shoppers load up on garden supplies, has been the only strong month for Discount Madness in recent years.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Discount Madness, the retail shop that sells everything from DVDs to Keurig coffee cups to seasonal mulch, will close this summer. An assistant manager attributed the impending closure to slow sales. Bob Racette said the store has not set an exact closing date, but expects the store to wind down operations in June or July.

"Business has been real slow," Racette said Wednesday. "Outside of one month of the year — this month — things are just really slow."

Racette said the property will likely be converted into a mixed use development with "condos in the back and stores in the front."
