In defeating the Wakefield Warriors on Monday at , the Woburn Memorial High School Tanners (14-2 in league play) locked up at least a tie for first place in the Middlesex League with Reading, which plays its final game against Wakefield later this week.
Tanners forward Daniel Holland scored twice in Monday's game, including a short-handed goal in the second period that took the wind out of Wakefield's sails, as Woburn went on to a 4-1 victory.

Successful Saturday
Daniel Holland had two goals in the second period Saturday, as the boys’ hockey team moved one step closer to a league championship with a 4-1 win over Winchester at O’Brien Rink.
With the game tied 1-1, Holland wrapped around Winchester’s net and then beat goalie Jed Robinson glove side five minutes into the second period.
Three minutes later, the junior winger faked like he was going behind the net and then slipped the puck past Robinson (30 saves) to give the Tanners a two-goal lead, at 3-1.
“He had two unbelievable goals for us tonight,” said Duran.
The win over now third-place Winchester (11-6-1, 11-4-1) puts the Tanners (14-3-1, 13-2) in the driver’s seat for at least a share of the Middlesex League title, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 2003.
With a win on Monday against Wakefield, the teams clinched a share of the title. If Reading (14-4-1, 12-2) loses to either Melrose on Monday or Wakefield on Friday, Woburn would win the title outright.
In the first period Saturday, Woburn center Casey Shea put home a rebound of an Alex Holland shot to give the Tanners an early 1-0 lead.
Daniel Holland also assisted the shot, as the team’s first line had a productive night with three goals.
“They’re three really good players,” Duran said of his first line, “and when they play together, they’re even better.”
Senior defenseman Brian Dulong, junior defenseman Mike Downie and senior forward Tom Arsenault had assists on Holland’s goals.
Winchester tied the game on a power-play goal by Colin Edwards late in the first period.
Freshman Nolan Redler and senior Peter Troiano had assists on the play.
Woburn goalie Cam McGlashing had 14 saves.
Woburn’s Adam Tanner added an insurance goal midway through the third period on a shot from the blue line. Teammates Eddie Aprile and Joe Connors assisted on the play.
