Woburn Athlete Medals at Cuba Judo Tournament

The athlete took a silver medal at the tournament.

WOBURN, MA—A Woburn-based Judoka took second prize at an international Judo tournament in Cuba over the weekend.

Two-time olympian Travis Stevens captured the silver medal in the U 81kg. division at the Havana Grand Prix Judo Tournament. Stevens placed fifth in the 2012 London games and placed 3rd in the 2015 Pan American Senior Championships.

“Travis’ silver medal performance is an incredible way for him to start 2016,” said Jimmy Pedro, U.S. Olympic Judo coach and owner of Pedro’s Judo Center in Wakefield to Wicked Local Wakefield . “It not only puts him back to a top 15 in the world ranking, it gives him some much-needed confidence in an Olympic year.”

The Wakefield-based 2012 Olympic champion Kayla Harrison also took bronze at the event.
