Having defeated Burlington 3-0 in a Super 8 play-in game at the Chelmsford Forum on Tuesday, Woburn Boys Hockey is on the way to a quarterfinal contest for the state championship. Next, they’ll face Springfield Cathedral Sunday at the Tsongas Center.
But this victory did not come easily. Burlington proved worthy, and dangerous adversaries. During the second period, an errant skate blade struck Woburn’s Kyle Flaherty’s leg, and seven stitches were eventually needed to close the wound. SB Nation reports that Flaherty played the rest of the match bleeding, presumably because he is hardcore.

“It was a great game,” Woburn Boys Hockey coach Jim Duran told SB Nation. “ Burlington is a great rival for us. We were lucky enough to get a couple by their goalie.”
Neither team scored in the first period. The Tanners put one puck in their opponents’ net during the second period, then scored twice in the third.
