Woburn City Clerk Asks AG to Assess Mass. Early Voting Law's Constitutionality

WOBURN, MA – Massachusetts' first run at early voting isn't even out the gate, but Woburn City Clerk William Campbell believes he's spotted a potential pitfall, and has asked the state's attorney general to review.

State House New Service reports that Campbell sent a letter to AG Maura Healey and Secretary of State William Galvin last week, asking Healey to "weigh in on the law's constitutionality."

According to Campbell, the early voting system "creates two classes of voters." Healey's office has not taken action, but says the letter is under review.

Massachusetts' early voting starts in 35 days. The newly instituted practice allows voters to start casting ballots 11 days before the general election this November.
