Woburn City Council Votes Against Clapp School Utilization
Woburn City Council voted not to allow the Woburn Library and Boys & Girls Club to use the Clapp School building.

WOBURN, MA—After a spirited and passionate debate in front of a packed City Hall Chambers Monday, Woburn City Council voted not to support the special legislation that would allow for the Woburn Public Library and Boys and Girls Club to utilize the Clapp School facility.
Woburn City Council voted 5-4 to not allow the use of the of Clapp School facility Monday. Aldermen Joanne Campbell, Richard Gately, Darlene Mercer-Bruen, Edward Tedesco, and Mark Gaffney voted in favor of killing the special legislation, while City Council President Richard Haggerty, Alderman At-Large Michael Concannon as well as Aldermen Lindsey Higgins and Michael Anderson voted against killing the legislation.

In addition, those in opposition of the use of the building cited the agreements made with neighborhood groups during the construction of the Goodyear school, which ensured that the Clapp School site would only be used for recreational purposes.

Concannon argued that the issue should be sent back to committee in order to form the best possible plan for all involved. While Haggerty did not immediately say so during the meeting, he echoed similar sentiments afterwards via Facebook.
