Woburn Coronavirus: Two Residents Die

An 89-year-old resident and a 92-year-old resident died from the coronavirus.

WOBURN, MA — Two Woburn residents died from the coronavirus, the first deaths in the town from the virus. The two were women over 80-years-old — An 89-year-old woman passed away Friday night and a 92-year-old woman passed away Saturday morning.

"I have been in contact with the relatives of both residents, and I offer my deepest condolences. I ask that everyone respects the privacy of the families during this time," Mayor Scott Galvin said.

The women were from separate families but died less than a day apart. Galvin assured residents that the town will continue to monitor the situation and follow guidance from state and federal officials.

He urged residents to do their part to stop the spread of the virus by closely following public health guidelines and practicing social distancing. "I encourage all residents to aggressively practice proper personal hygiene and social distancing," Galvin said, "I also ask parents to ensure their children and teenagers understand the critical importance of these precautionary measures."

The news of the deaths in Woburn comes after the Massachusetts Department of Health announced nine new deaths in the state, bringing the total number up to 44 deaths.
