Woburn Enters Contract Talks With School Superintendent Candidate
Matthew Crowley has been an assistant superintendent with school system since October 2015 and was seen as the front runner for the post.

WOBURN, MA -- The Woburn School Committee voted to enter contract talks with Interim Superintendent Matthew Crowley at its meeting Monday night. If a deal is reached, Crowley would permanently fill the role he has held since the start of the year after Mark Donovan retired. The committee had previously opted for a fast-track hiring process; considering a broader pool of candidates could have resulted in a candidate search last between six and nine months.
Crowley was named assistant superintendent in October 2015. Previously, Crowley spent nearly 20 years as a teacher and headmaster at Brockton High School, which is Massachusetts' largest public high school.
When he was hired by the district, Crowley was selected from a pool of 53 candidates that applied for the assistant superintendent's position. At the time he was hired to replace Gary Reese, who departed for the interim superintendent post at Amesbury Public Schools over the summer.
