WOBURN, MA — Woburn firefighters put out a 2nd alarm house fire at 18 Frances Road, Tuesday morning, officials confirmed. Crews were called to to the single-family house around 10:15 and cleared the scene about two hours later. No residents were home, but one firefighter did go to the hospital for observation, said Woburn Fire Chief Stephen Adgate.

He had no information on the firefighter's condition as of 2:15 p.m.

The fire was on Frances Road, not Francis Street, where the nursing home is located.

Firefighters activated the second alarm soon after arrival, when the fire had migrated to the attic. According to Adgate, it appeared to have started in the kitchen area of the house. The main body of the fire was knocked down around 11:15 a.m., the Burlington Fire Department tweeted from the scene.

"The members of the dept did an excellent job of gaining access to the attic area. They put the fire out," Adgate said. "It was one of those attics with a pull-down ladder. You can only crawl one guy at a time up that thing, and that first guy took a beating, but he did a great job getting a line up."

"They took a lot of heat," Adgate said.

In a second alarm fire, all the department's resources are brought to bear on the fire. Reading, Burlington, Stoneham and Winchester also provided mutual aid, Adgate said.

The house is not habitable currently, but is "definitely repairable," Adgate said.
