Woburn Man Caught with 200 Sea Bass Over Legal Limit in Wareham

A Woburn man was found with 209 sea bass over the legal limit, including 122 undersized sea bass.

WOBURN, MA—A Woburn man was caught with over 200 more sea bass than the legal limit in Wareham Sunday, State Department of Environmental Affairs spokesperson Kate Gronendyke confirmed with Patch. 

According to Gronendyke, the man was caught with 209 more sea bass than the legal limit allows, as well as 122 sea bass which were undersized. Gronendyke told Patch that the legal limit for the vessel was around 10 fish. 

There were five other fishermen on board, only one of whom had a recreational saltwater fishing license. The owner is a commercial permit holder with no recreational saltwater fishing license. One minor was also on board.

The five other fishermen were issued civil citations for fishing without a salt water recreational license, possession of over the limit sea bass and possession of undersized sea bass. 

According to Gronendyke, police responded to a call from the Wareham harbormaster at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police later searched the boat and found the illegal fish.

The boat owner was issued a criminal summons, and his boat, trailer and fishing gear was seized by the state.
