WOBURN, MA — A Woburn man was sentenced in federal court Thursday for "being a felon in possession of a firearm," prosecutors announced Friday. He pleaded guilty to the charge in September. Vasily Hardy, 28, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Senior Judge Rya W. Zobel to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

The charge dates to Nov. 14, 2018. Hardy was pulled over for "multiple traffic violations," prosecutors said. After learning there was an active warrant for Hardy, the police officer arrested him and searched his vehicle, where he found a semi-automatic pistol with ammunition, according to a release by the U.S. Attorney's office.

"During an interview with law enforcement, Hardy confirmed that the handgun belonged to him and that he did not have a license to carry a firearm in Massachusetts," the release continued. "Further investigation revealed that Hardy was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a previous conviction of larceny from a person in 2013."
