Woburn Man Who Allegedly Punched Officer, Sped Off Arrested
The suspect in an alleged assault of a Stoneham officer last week was arrested Sunday.
STONEHAM, MA – A Woburn man wanted for a laundry list of charges after allegedly assaulting a Stoneham police officer and driving into a police cruiser was arrested Sunday. Matthew MacInnes, 33, is accused of punching an officer, driving into a police vehicle and fleeing the scene at over 100 mph on Aug. 14 after being told he would be arrested.
Stoneham Police Chief James McIntyre said his officers responded to a disturbance on Main Street around 2:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14. Officers told MacInnes that he would be taken into custody.
MacInnes allegedly punched an officer who tried to arrest him and fled on foot. Officers chased him toward the intersection of Wilson and Parkway Roads, where he allegedly got into his truck, locked himself inside, and drove into a cruiser parked in front of him before speeding away.

Police pursued MacInnes on I-93, but said they called off the chase for safety reasons after speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour.
MacInnes was located in Boston Sunday afternoon and placed under arrest without incident. He faces the following charges:

- Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (two counts)
- Resisting Arrest
- Malicious Destruction of Property Over $250
- Marked Lanes Violation (two counts)
- Speeding
- Failure to Slow at an Intersection
- Failure to Stop/Yield (two counts)
- Leaving the Scene of Property Damage
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop for Police
MacInnes is being held without bail pending his arraignment in Woburn District Court.
