WOBURN, MA -- Saying Woburn's quality of life hasn't kept pace with the amount of commercial development approved in recent years, a Woburn Realtor said last week she will challenge Mayor Scott Galvin in November's election. Liz Pedrini, who has lived in Woburn for more than a decade, said her sister, recently-retired State Sen. Kathleen O'Connor, will run her campaign.

"Given the amount of commercial development residents have been subject to, we should have more to show in terms of improved quality of life across the city," Pedrini said. "I offer a leadership style that places the needs of residents first and welcomes community input and collaboration to address Woburn’s challenges."

While its her first run for elected office in Woburn, Pedrini said she has experience in the community. In 2013 she organized a local fundraising effort for first responders in Newtown, CT following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

"I have been involved in our community for many years—paying close attention city services and the allocation of resources," she said. "Residents deserve solutions to long-standing city problems, such as deferred maintenance of municipal infrastructure and roadways, solid waste management, and a lack of communication regarding the short, medium and long-term vision for the city."
