In response to a neighbor post, David Demambro encouraged readers not to go out at all. Instead, he wrote, "Cook a nice home-cooked meal, rent a nice movie, a bottle of wine. Your date will love it!"

Thomas Porter recommended just going to Stoneham, while on Facebook, William Comeiro suggested Bickford's — with a picture of Thurston Howell III, the millionaire on Gilligan's Island.

Other Facebook commenters recommended specific events: Deborah Raymondi suggested people treat their Valentine to "A Night of Blues" at the American Legion Hall, Saturday, Feb. 15. Shannon Gately Sevier pointed to the special Valentine's Day menu at the Country Club's Green's Grill and Pub, Feb. 14 and 15.
