Woburn Tragedy Being Investigated
A worker in his 30s was fatally struck by falling rock at the construction site.

WOBURN, MA — A construction worker was killed by falling rock at the construction site for the Woburn Public Library, officials confirmed in an afternoon press conference. Mayor Scott Galvin told reporters the worker was "crushed," but would not confirm earlier reports of being pinned by a boulder.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and State Police are investigating the incident. The death is not considered suspicious at this time, Middlesex DA Marian Ryan said.
State Police received a report of the fatal incident around 11:45 a.m. A preliminary investigation suggests the victim, a man in his 30s, was working alongside the building's foundation when he was struck with a piece of rock that had broken free. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim worked for subcontractor Shcnabel Foundation Company, located in Marlborough. Galvin initially said the man had worked for WL French Excavating Corporation, which released a statement late Tuesday afternoon clarifying the issue.
"WL French Excavating Corporation is deeply saddened to learn of this young man's passing and thoughts and prayers are with his family and Shcnabel Foundation," the company said.
