Woburn, Stoneham and Winchester May Finally Get a Tri-City Bike Path

After nearly 30 years of asking for a bikeway connecting the three cities, Stoneham town officials said construction may begin next winter.

Life-long Stoneham resident Cameron Bain has been advocating for a bikeway along the 6.6 mile path that connects Winchester, Stoneham and Woburn for nearly three decades.

And his dream, although 27 years in the making, may soon come true.

Stoneham town officials approved the bike path after a special town meeting in early January. Construction could start by next winter, according to Middlesex East.

The bike path would mostly be in Stoneham, but would run from Wedgemere Station in Winchester to Horn Pond in Woburn.

Bikers who use the trail would follow scenic routes along old railroad lines, the Wedgemere Pond and the Davidson Park.

Some Stoneham residents and merchants previously objected to the trail, according to Middlesex East, because of the possibility that land would be taken from Recreation Field for the bikeway.
