Woburn Youth Soccer Girls U14 Tanners-3 Team Wins Gold Medal

The Woburn Girls U14 Tanners-3 soccer team participated in Peabody Youth Soccer’s 21st Annual Columbus Day Invitational Tournament and won the Gold Medal in the Division 3 bracket after finishing in second place in the round robin play.
They defeated Beverly 2–0 on Saturday. Sunday morning they lost to Billerica’s division 2 team 1-0 in a hard fought tough game. Billerica scored with 30 seconds left in the game to win it. Billerica finished in first place winning their three games. Sunday afternoon the Tanners-3 defeated the Woburn-6 team 5 – 0 to take second place behind Billerica.
This setup a rematch between Woburn and Billerica in the Championship Game on Monday. Both teams battled with no goals scored in the first half. In the second half Woburn finally broke Billerica’s defense when Katt Carpenter scored from Ciara Devereaux with 5 minutes left to play in the game. But Billerica didn’t quit. They tied the game up with 2 minutes left to play sending the game into overtime. Woburn’s Meghan O’Brien scored in the first overtime period from a Taylor Lund pass. Woburn’s relentless defending and determination by the whole team kept Billerica from scoring in the second overtime period winning the game 2-1.
