Woburn's Field Hockey Team Falls to Watertown, 6-0
The Tanners could not overcome the defending state champions on Monday.
Woburn field hockey coach Barbara Locke knew her team had a steep test against the defending state champions, Watertown, but she was pleased with the Tanners' effort.
“(Watertown is) a well skilled team and well coached,” Locke said. “I told (my players) one thing, don’t quit. And they didn’t quit.”
A first-half hat trick by senior Erika Kelly led the Raiders to a 6-0 victory in Watertown. Woburn was held to two shots in the first half, and none in the second.

Watertown coach Eileen Donohue was pleased by her team's effort against Woburn.
“Everyone is getting into the game and contributing,” Donohue said. “We passed the ball well and were generous with it.”

The Tanners had their moments, but had trouble stringing them together into a goal, Locke said.
"We had some great moments — some give and goes," Locke said.
Locke said she hopes her team takes something from the game.
"Playing Watertown really makes them see where (Woburn) can go," Locke said.
With the introduction of a middle school field hockey program in Woburn, Locke said she is hopeful that she will get players with more experience when the reach the high school level.
The Tanners are now 1-7-1 and face Stoneham on Wednesday.
