Woburn's Memorial Day Observance

The ceremonies will start Monday morning at the renovated First Burial Ground.

WOBURN, MA – A special dedication of Woburn’s First Burial Ground will kick off this year’s Memorial Day Observations on Monday.

A ceremony and Call to Order will begin at 8:15 a.m. at Park Street led by Mayor Scott Galvin, Cemetery Commission Chair John Sawyer and Woburn Historical Society co-founder Kathy Lucero. There will be a new fence, restored stone wall, a new flag pole and flag, new walkway, and a new bronze Memorial sign. A guide to all the marked and unmarked grave sites will be there as well.

"The historic First Burial Ground is the City’s first and oldest cemetery," the City said on its website. "It is also the final resting place of Woburn’s early settlers, military heroes, church leaders, oldest families, and descendants of several U.S. Presidents. "

At 8:45 a.m., Veterans Director Larry Guiseppe and United Veterans Council Commander George Poole will lead a march to Woburn Common, followed by observations at Woodbrook and Calvary cemeteries, Jewish Cemetery and a muster at the East Woburn Fire Station.
