1 Dead In Double Tractor-Trailer Crash On Route 91
Six vehicles were involved in the crash that left about 300 yards of debris strewn across the highway.
LONGMEADOW, MA — A six-car crash on Route 91 Saturday morning resulted in the death of a tractor-trailer driver from Connecticut.
State Police responded to the Longmeadow crash around 7 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed a Peterbuilt tractor-trailer struck the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer that had slowed due to traffic approaching a line-painting project a few miles up in Springfield. The Peterbuilt tractor-trailer continued, striking more vehicles that had slowed, went through a guardrail, and stopped in the median.
The driver of the Peterbuilt tractor-trailer, a 33-year-old Thomaston, CT, man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2010 Honda CRV, 2017 Toyota Corolla, 2011 Nissan Rogue, and 2015 Honda Pilot were involved in the crash. Three people suffered minor injuries, and two - the passengers in the CRV and Pilot - were transported to the hospital. The driver of the Freightliner tractor-trailer was not injured.
The Peterbuilt trailer had bottles of shampoo that spilled on the highway, causing about 300 yards of debris.

Route 91 North was closed for about five hours at Exit 49 in Enfdield, CT, and has been re-routed back to Route 91 at Exit 2 via Route 5 North.
