2,000 Pounds Of Heroin Found After Car Fails To Stop At Crosswalk
Failing to stop for a pedestrian crossing leads to a major arrest by Massachusetts State Police.

SPRINGFIELD, MA—There are two men who likely wish that a pedestrian hadn't tried to cross the street when they did.
On April 3 at 3:30 p.m. Trooper Cardin stopped a white Nissan Altima for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk in Springfield. The Nissan wasn't registered, and had to be towed. As the two got out of the car, one man took off on foot. A BOLO issued, and he was soon captured after a brief struggle.
Officers also located 2,000 bags of heroin that Irvin Sanchez, 21, Chicopee, had thrown out before he was caught. Sanchez was transported to SP Springfield where he was booked and held on $50,000 bail.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a stun gun in the center console. The driver, Omar Marrero, 31, and passenger Sabrina Calvente, were arrested and transported to SP Springfield for booking. Marrero's bail was set at $500 and he was released. Calvente was released on personal recognizance after paying a $40 bail fee.
