2 Tractor-Trailers Collide on Pike: Drivers Sent to Hospital With Injuries

A crash occurred on Thursday afternoon on Route 90 in Auburn, eastbound.

AUBURN, MA—Troopers and emergency crews responded around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday to a tractor-trailer crash that happened on the Massachusetts Turnpike eastbound near the mile 91 marker in Auburn.

A tractor-trailer unit rear-ended a second tractor-trailer, according to police, with one a flatbed carrying building materials.

The operator of the Volvo tractor that struck the other truck from behind was entrapped in the cab and extricated by emergency responders. That operator, a 59-year-old New Jersey woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to UMass Medical Center Lakeside. The operator of the flatbed TT, a 57-year-old Virginia man who was driving a Freightliner tractor, suffered minor injuries and was also transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

All eastbound lanes were closed for just over an hour, and partial lane closures remained in place until 7:35 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
