3-Year-Old Hit By Car in Stable Condition

A child was hit by a car on Ames Street Thursday evening in Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA — A three-year-old girl is in stable condition after being struck by a car on Ames Street on Thursday evening.

Worcester police responded around 5:43 p.m. to the area of 38 Ames St., arriving to find the three-year-old girl and her mother. The girl was conscious and alert, and was treated at the scene. The child and mother were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, said police.

The operator, a 57-year-old from Douglas, stayed at the scene and spoke with and cooperated with investigators.

Investigators say the driver headed north on Ames in her Chevrolet Equinox when the girl ran out onto the street into the path of the car. She was struck on the lower driver's side front bumper, and pushed the girl about 16 feet.

The girl is in stable condition with head and face trauma, and the injuries appear to be non-life threatening, said police on Friday.

This investigation is ongoing. No citations have been issued at this time.
