A total of $320 million of funding from the Energy Department was awarded to institutions across the country. The money is meant for research in fusion energy, quantum physics, PFAS remediation, and other scientific disciplines.

Several other universities in the state received this funding, including multiple groups at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Massachusetts Boston.

“Massachusetts is the global leader in innovative research,” said Gov. Maura Healey. “The technologies of the future – from fusion energy to quantum information science – are born in Massachusetts.
