FITCHBURG, MA — A person was hospitalized after a shooting in Fitchburg on Monday evening, accoridng to police.
The Fitchburg Police Department said its officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Clinton Street at around 6:38 p.m. When they arrived, officers found a person with a single gunshot wound to the leg and provided first aid until ambulance personnel arrived on the scene.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is being treated for an injury that is not considered life-threatening.
There is no indication that the incident is connected to Fitchburg State University, and police said the area has been secured and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Fitchburg Police Department's Patrol Division, along with detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Police did not immediately release the name of any of the individuals involved, and no arrests have been made.
