Shrewsbury Police Officer Suspended By State POST Commission
He was suspended based on evidence that he "engaged or may have engaged in criminal conduct."
SHREWSBURY, MA — A Shrewsbury police officer has been suspended by a state agency after the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission issued an emergency order revoking his law enforcement certification on Thursday.
Officer Shawn Valliere was suspended based on evidence that he “engaged or may have engaged in criminal conduct," accoridng to the POST Commission. The suspension is effective immediately.
While the POST Commission did not detail the underlying allegations in its order, it stated the action was taken due to potential criminal conduct.

Meanwhile, the Telegram and Gazette reported that charges against Valliere stem from a Mar. 17 incident when he allegedly threatened a household member with a gun before later aiming the firearm at himself.
Court records obtained by the news outlet also said witnesses reported he had been abusing drugs and alcohol and was experiencing ongoing mental health struggles around the time of the incident.

Valliere is a veteran member of the Shrewsbury Police Department and had previously been recognized for his actions in the line of duty, including receiving a Life Saving Medal in 2023 for helping save a one-year-old child who was not breathing, according to department records.
The suspension order requires Valliere to immediately surrender all law enforcement credentials and equipment, including his badge, firearm, cruiser, uniform, and any use-of-force tools. The Shrewsbury Police Department is also directed to collect the items and revoke any related permits without delay.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released by state officials or the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Patch also reached out to Chief Kevin Anderson, who did not immediately respond for comment.
