WORCESTER, MA — A local news provider announced that it has moved its Worcester Bureau into the Worcester Public Library.

GBH News said the relocation is part of its "Connecting the Commonwealth initiative", a statewide journalism effort that also includes New England Public Media in Springfield and CAI on the Cape and Islands, in a news release on Tuesday.

The bureau serves as the home base for Worcester reporter Sam Turken and will continue coverage of the city's housing, education and economy while adding community events and public forums with the Worcester Public Library, according to GBH.

Before the relocation, the GBH News Worcester Bureau was located at 27 Federal St, which was the home of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette until the mid-1970s.

“Being embedded in the Worcester Public Library allows us to be exactly where the community gathers,” said Dan Lothian, Editor-in-Chief of GBH News and The World. “Our Connecting the Commonwealth initiative is built on the idea that local stories have statewide impact, from Springfield to Provincetown. By strengthening our presence in Worcester, we are ensuring that the voices of Central Massachusetts are central to the conversation.”

GBH said the partnership represents a shared mission of information accessibility and civic literacy.

GBH News and the library plan to host a public event in the coming months to welcome residents into the space and gather ideas about local coverage, according to the release. Information about that event will be posted at GBH's events page.
