WORCESTER COUNTY, MA — Drivers across Worcester County are continuing to see rising gas prices at the pump as fuel costs climb steadily across Massachusetts and much of the country heading into the busy summer travel season.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Massachusetts was $4.464 Tuesday, according to AAA. That price is up 7.2 cents from one week ago, 49.5 cents higher than one month ago and $1.497 more expensive than the same time one year ago.
The Worcester metro area average was slightly higher at $4.476 per gallon, reflecting ongoing increases in fuel prices throughout Central Massachusetts.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline stood at $4.504 per gallon Tuesday, according to AAA, placing Massachusetts just below the national average despite recent increases statewide.
The latest data from the EIA also showed elevated fuel prices across the Northeast. The federal agency reported a Massachusetts average of $4.427 per gallon for the week of May 11, while the broader New England region averaged $4.478. The national average reported by EIA was approximately $4.50 per gallon.
Although prices in Worcester County remain close to statewide and regional averages, some stations continue to offer slightly lower prices than nearby competitors. Prices can fluctuate daily depending on wholesale fuel costs, station competition and delivery schedules.
