WORCESTER, MA — Graduation season is underway, and one of the city's several institutions celebrated its students on Monday.
Clark University’s Class of 2026 was celebrated in two commencement ceremonies at the DCU Center in Worcester on Monday as undergraduate and graduate students received their degrees.
Clark awarded 612 undergraduate degrees during a morning ceremony and 636 advanced degrees in the afternoon, according to the university. Both ceremonies marked the graduation of 1,248 students from the Class of 2026.
At the undergraduate ceremony, President David B. Fithian spoke to graduates about staying engaged as citizens, while the commencement speaker, Wendy L. Freedman, an astrophysicist at the University of Chicago, urged students to persevere through setbacks.
Student speaker William Stafford, a political science major, told classmates that while they may not always control their circumstances, they can choose how they respond.
During the graduate ceremony, climate expert Sir Andrew Steer encouraged graduates to think boldly and stay hopeful as they enter a world facing major challenges.
Graduate student speaker Nourhan Beshir Attia, who earned a master’s in environmental science and policy, reflected on belonging and authenticity, while Board of Trustees Chair Roy DiNicola and Fithian also addressed the crowd.
