WORCESTER, MA — Nelson Place School Principal Mary Sealey has taken a temporary leave of absence, according to a message sent to the school community this week.

Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Brian E. Allen told families in a May 19 letter that Sealey is on leave and that Ellen Moynihan, described by the district as a former longtime Worcester principal, will lead the school for the rest of the academic year.

Allen did not give a reason for Sealey’s leave in the letter posted on the Nelson Place School website.

“Ellen brings several years of experience as a teacher, coach, and principal in the Worcester Public Schools,” Allen wrote.

Allen also wrote that Worcester Public Schools “will continue to support Mrs. Sealey and the Nelson Place School community to ensure the success of students and families.”

Nelson Place School is at 35 Nelson Place in Worcester, according to the school’s website. The school website continued to list Sealey as principal as of Friday, May 22.

The district did not say how long Sealey’s leave is expected to last, other than to say Moynihan will support the school through the remainder of the school year.
