1. Worcester Launches Shannon Youth Violence Prevention Grant Application (patch.com) — Worcester is inviting local nonprofits and youth-serving groups to submit Letters of Interest for up to $75,000 in 2027 Shannon Community Safety Initiative funding focused on youth violence prevention. The Youth Opportunities division will only invite qualifying organizations that align with the program’s anti-gang and violence-reduction goals to file full proposals, with key deadlines in June and July and awards expected in January 2027.    

2. Worcester Police Seek Man Charged In Worcester Common Stabbing (patch.com) — Worcester police are asking residents to help locate 44-year-old LeShawn Parrish, who is wanted on a warrant in connection with a stabbing behind City Hall on Worcester Common. A woman suffered serious injuries in the Friday morning attack near 455 Main Street, and officers provided emergency care before she was taken to a local hospital. Detectives are continuing to investigate and urge anyone with information to contact the Worcester Police Detective Bureau or submit anonymous tips.    

3. Worcester Police Seek Witnesses, Victims In Water Street Fight (patch.com) — Worcester residents are being urged to contact police if they witnessed or were victimized in a late-night fight outside the Water Street Municipal Parking Lot on April 26. Several people have already been arrested, but investigators still want to speak with additional witnesses or victims and have shared video of the brawl to help identify those involved.    

4. Developer eyes 50 apartments at former Worcester Academy offices (wbjournal.com subscription) — A Boston developer is proposing a 50-unit, four-story apartment building at the former Worcester Academy alumni offices on Providence Street, near the Canal District. The project needs variances and Planning Board approval, and may trigger Worcester’s affordable housing requirements. If approved, it would add studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms plus 50 parking spaces to the neighborhood.    

5. After stabbings on Worcester Common, a call for action (telegram.com) — Recent stabbings on Worcester Common have sparked urgent calls for a coordinated safety plan downtown, including more visible policing and better support for people facing homelessness and addiction. Business leaders and city officials are debating how to keep the Common, City Hall area, and nearby venues welcoming while addressing aggressive behavior and public disorder that worry residents and visitors.
