SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — A Worcester County man was arrested this week after detectives conducting narcotics enforcement found suspected cocaine and crack cocaine, police said.
Gerard Shonbeck, 38, was arrested June 1 after Southbridge police detectives saw activity they believed was consistent with possible narcotics activity near locations that have been the focus of investigations over the past eight months, according to the Southbridge Police Department.
Police said detectives saw Shonbeck enter a convenience store, briefly get into a parked vehicle and then leave the area on foot. Patrol officers later found him on a nearby walking trail, where police said he became combative and did not comply with officers’ commands.
During the investigation, police said they found about 22 grams of suspected cocaine packaged for distribution, suspected crack cocaine packaged for distribution, multiple stacks of U.S. currency and items commonly used for packaging narcotics.
Shonbeck was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, crack cocaine, subsequent offense and trafficking in cocaine between 18 and 36 grams, according to police.
Police said Shonbeck was held pending arraignment or release on bail.
