The Mobility Action Plan is Worcester’s first long-range transportation plan and includes 46 strategies focused on safety, connectivity, equity and sustainability, according to the city.

Since July 2024, Worcester added 13.5 miles of bike lanes, installed 22 new rectangular rapid flashing beacon locations, added 96 bike racks and completed 40 permanent speed humps, according to the report. The city also reported 14 new crosswalks, 13 new crosswalk curb extensions and three quick-build projects.

The report also highlights the city’s 2024 reduction of the default speed limit on most Worcester streets from 30 mph to 25 mph. New speed limit signs were installed by January 2025, and the city distributed 435 lawn signs as part of a public awareness campaign, according to the report.

The city also launched its Vision Zero safety planning process in 2024 using a federal Safe Streets for All grant. The effort aims to reduce and eventually eliminate deaths and serious injuries from roadway crashes by 2035, according to the report.

Residents can read the full annual report on the city’s Mobility Action Plan page.
