WORCESTER, MA — A new half marathon is expected to bring thousands of runners to Worcester during the spring racing season.
The Mass Half will begin and end at Polar Park, 100 Madison St., and serve as the signature annual fundraiser for the United Way of Central Massachusetts. Registration will open in October.
Organizers said the event will be Worcester's first half marathon in more than a decade. The race is intended for runners pursuing personal records, preparing for full marathons or participating recreationally.
M&T Bank will serve as the event's presenting sponsor. Proceeds will support the United Way and nonprofit organizations across Central Massachusetts, according to organizers.
The event is also expected to involve local businesses, corporate sponsors, volunteers and community groups. Organizers anticipate that thousands of runners will participate.
The United Way of Central Massachusetts works with regional organizations on youth programs, financial stability, food and housing access, health care and community resilience.
Organizers have not yet announced the race date, course or registration schedule.
