WORCESTER, MA — A major redevelopment of a former Saint-Gobain property in the Greendale neighborhood will reach a ceremonial milestone Thursday.
A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at GreenTech Park on Thursday at 3 p.m. The event will celebrate $10.4 million secured for roadway and infrastructure improvements.
State leaders, including Sen. Edward Markey and Rep. James McGovern, are expected to attend the event at 1 New Bond St.
The work includes new public roads and upgrades to water, sewer, drainage and other utilities. A $2.6 million U.S. Economic Development Administration grant announced in 2024 supports roadway, telecommunications, stormwater, gas and electrical improvements and is matched by $2.6 million in local funding, according to the federal agency.
GreenTech Park covers about 51 acres acquired in 2022 by New Garden Park Inc., a nonprofit subsidiary of the Worcester Business Development Corporation. The redevelopment includes removing more than 40 obsolete buildings and preparing sites for advanced manufacturing, according to the WBDC.
Plans call for reconnecting Ararat Street, New Bond Street and Norton Drive. New Garden Park estimates that the completed redevelopment could contain about 1 million square feet of new and renovated space and support more than 1,000 jobs, according to its project description.
Last month, the first announced tenant at GreenTech Park was named. Restaurant Depot, a wholesale restaurant supplier, received site plan approval from the Worcester Planning Board for a 50,000-square-foot facility.
Event attendees should enter through New Bond Street. Parking will be available along the street and in a lot beyond the ceremony site.
