Future Of Former Worcester RMV Site Up For Discussion

WORCESTER, MA — Residents will have an opportunity next week to help shape the future of a former Registry of Motor Vehicles property in Worcester.

The Worcester Redevelopment Authority will hold a community input session for the future of the property at 611 Main St. Feedback will help inform a request for proposals expected to be released this fall, the city announced on Wednesday.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the first-floor meeting room at the Worcester Public Library, 3 Salem Square.

The 65,017-square-foot property contains a single-story building with 13,330 square feet of commercial space. Most of the remaining property is a paved parking area, the city said.

The Commonwealth previously owned the site, which housed Worcester's RMV branch from 1983 until August 2022. The branch moved to a 14,105-square-foot service center at 50 Southwest Cutoff with about 350 parking spaces.

The former RMV building was later converted into a 60-bed emergency winter shelter that opened in December 2023, Patch previously reported.

The WRA took ownership of the property in January. The authority has not announced a preferred future use for the site.
