WORCESTER, MA—A man is facing charges after leading police on a car chase in an allegedly stolen car.

On Saturday, July 16, at 4 a.m., Worcester police were on patrol in the Main South neighborhood when they spotted a Chevy pickup truck being driven by a man (later identified as 46 year old Gregory Bray) drive past them with a broken taillight. Officers ran the vehicle’s registration, which revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The officer followed the vehicle and observed it pull into the Shell gas Station on Madison Street. The officer tried to pull the car over, but the suspect hit the gas and drove directly toward a second marked police cruiser that had pulled into the lot. The suspect narrowly missed striking the cruiser as the officer was able to maneuver out of the way at the last second.

Officers chased the suspect as he disregarded all traffic signs, going through several red lights and driving the wrong way down one way streets. As the vehicle fled, officers observed smoke to be coming from the vehicle's tires, said the release. Officers eventually chased the vehicle onto Court Street, where the suspect pulled into a parking lot, which was a dead end. Realizing he was trapped, Bray quickly pulled a U-turn in the parking lot and began accelerating towards officers. At this time, officers instructed the suspect to stop his vehicle at gunpoint. The suspect stopped his vehicle, but refused to exit.

Officers were required to physically break the windows of Bray’s vehicle and removed him to place him under arrest.
