WORCESTER, MA — A 14-year-old boy is dead after police said he was found fatally shot inside a Worcester apartment.

In a news release, Worcester police said officers were dispatched to an address in the lower Belmont Street neighborhood around 4:15 p.m. for a report of a possible shooting. When officers arrived, they found the teen inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics provided aid to the boy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to authorities, a 16-year-old was arrested shortly after midnight Saturday in connection with the shooting. It's unclear if the person has been charged and what circumstances led to the shooting.

The teen is the third to be fatally shot in Worcester since February.

In February, a 17-year-old died in Worcester after a shooting in the Union Hill neighborhood, police said.

A month later, Chasity Nunez and her 11-year-old daughter, Zella Nunez, were fatally shot while sitting in a car along Lisbon Street in the Columbus Park neighborhood. Police said someone in a vehicle fired dozens of shots at them. They died later at a local hospital.
