Bust Nabs 2 With Handgun, 6 Pounds of Pot, Klonopin, and $90,000
Two men were arrested on drug and gun charges in Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA—After an investigation involving multiple agencies, Worcester police seized a handgun with ammunition, almost $90,000 in cash, and six pounds of marijuana.
According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. Samuel Lopez, 28, 201 Ingleside Ave., Apt 2, Worcester, was charged with possession of a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute; conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act; unlawful possession of a firearm; and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Joshua Rivera, 22, of 75 Mill St., was charged with possession of a class B controlled substance (Klonopin) with intent to distribute; and conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act.
Both suspects are expected to be arraigned on Wednesday in Worcester Central District Court.
On Tuesday, shortly before midnight, State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, along with members of several other law enforcement agencies, executed search warrants at five locations in the city, as well as two vehicles.
All evidence, including a Taurus 9 mm handgun with a magazine and ammunition, about six pounds of marijuana, a quantity of Klonopin and Suboxone strips, and approximately $88,050 were seized. Also seized were a 2016 Toyota Tundra, and a 2014 Mercedes Benz.
“This is a great example of multiple-county and multiple-agency teamwork to get drugs off the street,” Early said in a statement. “It is especially important with the crisis we are facing.”
The joint investigation included State Police Gang Unit; State Police – C Troop Community Action Team; State Police K-9 Unit; Worcester Police Vice Unit; Worcester Police Gang Unit; Worcester Police Operations; State Police Detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office; and the South Shore Narcotics Task Force.
