Car, Person, Involved In Hit-And-Run That Injured 3-Year-Old Found

A person who allegedly struck a child and took off has been identified.

WORCESTER, MA—Investigators have found what they believe to have been the car, and the person, involved in a hit and run on Bellevue Street that injured a three-year-old boy.

Invetsigators located the suspect motor vehicle on Tatman Street Monday evening at approximately 6 p.m. The vehicle was impounded by investigators. Also, the child was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified and will be charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident.

On May 21, at approximately 7:40 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of 24 Bellevue St for a report of a hit and run car accident involving a three-year-old victim. The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle was parked in the street while a passenger was exiting. A blue Mercury Marquis attempted to go around the parked vehicle by going into the opposite lane. A three-year-old boy stepped into the street and was struck by the Marquis.

According to witnesses, the operator of the Marquis stopped on top of the child’s legs and then backed up. A witness approached the vehicle and yelled, “You just hit a small child!” The operator rolled up his window, locked his door and sped away. The Accident Reconstruction Unit processed the scene. The child was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending. Investigators will also be submitting paperwork to the RMV for an immediate public safety threat and to have the driver’s license revoked.
