'Career Criminal' Sentenced 15 to 19 Years in State Prison

A Worcester man was sentenced on gun charges, and determined to be a 'career criminal' by a judge.

WORCESTER, MA—A Worcester man was found guilty by a jury on Thursday and sentenced to state prison after the judge determined him to be a career criminal with three prior violent acts, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Christien Hoffler, 31, was found guilty of possession of a firearm without a FID card, possession of ammunition without a FID card and reckless endangerment of a child. The jury found him not guilty of domestic assault charges.

Judge David Ricciardone heard evidence in the career criminal enhancement portion of the trial, and found Hoffler to be a career criminal with three prior violent acts. He sentenced Hoffler to 15 to 17 years in state prison on the gun-related charges and 2 ½ years on the reckless endangerment of a child conviction. That sentence is to run concurrent with the longer prison term.

The charges stem from an incident in June of 2013 at a Vernon Street home.
