Clinton Man Arrested After He Flees Police in Stolen Car, Crashes Into Guardrail
The man drove off from police, hit a guardrail, and resisted arrest.

WORCESTER, MA—A Clinton man is facing several charges after police say he fled in his vehicle, crashed into a guardrail, and resisted arrest.
On Wednesday, Sept. 21, around 12:25 a.m., a Worcester police officer spotted a grey Mazda sedan go through a red light at Foster and Green Streets.
The officer turned on his lights and siren and tried to stop the car, but the driver wouldn't pull over, instead driving through stop signs and bouncing off curbs, for up to five miles.
Eventually, the suspect crashed into a guardrail on Main Street by Ludlow Street, which disabled the vehicle and caused the air bag to deploy. As officers approached, the operator (later identified as Richard Santiago, 46, Longedge Road, Clinton) began swearing at officers. Santiago refused to show officers his hands or get out of the vehicle. Officers had to physically remove Santiago from the vehicle. Once he was removed, Santiago began fighting with officers, violently resisting attempts to be placed into handcuffs. After a violent struggle, officers were able to place Santiago into handcuffs, said police.
Santiago refused to enter the patrol wagon for transportation, and officers had to pick Santiago up and carry him into the wagon. In the process of placing him in the wagon, Santiago began spitting at officers. Eventually, officers were able to subdue Santiago and transport him to the station for processing.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen earlier in the day from an address in Worcester.
Santiago was charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Failure to Stop for the Police, Operating with a Suspended License, along with numerous Motor Vehicle offenses.
