Cocaine, Fentanyl Pills And Loaded Gun Seized In Worcester

WORCESTER, MA — Two men are facing charges Tuesday after a police search reported finding drugs and an unserialized firearm.

Juan Vargas, 43, and Kola Anjorin, 44, are facing multiple charges, including guns and drugs, following a police search of a Mott Street apartment on Tuesday and reported finding drugs and an unserialized firearm.

Vargas was charged with trafficking 36 to 99 grams of cocaine, while Anjorin faces fentanyl distribution and firearms charges, police said.

Vice detectives had obtained a search warrant for the apartment with Vargas identified as its target, police said. While surveilling, detectives saw Vargas leave the building and stopped him a short distance away on Barclay Street.

Detectives found three knotted bags containing cocaine in a crossbody bag Vargas was wearing, according to police.

Vice detectives, Worcester police K-9 officers and officers from the department's Operations Division then entered the building through an open common door. After receiving no response while knocking and announcing themselves at the second-floor apartment, officers forced their way inside and found Anjorin in a bedroom, police said.

A search of Vargas' bedroom uncovered about 40 grams of cocaine packaged for sale, marijuana, suspected psychedelic mushrooms and drug packaging and processing materials, according to police.

In Anjorin's bedroom, detectives found pressed fentanyl pills packaged for sale, drug processing materials and what police described as an AR-style large-capacity handgun loaded with a 30-round magazine. The gun had no visible serial number and appeared to be a privately made firearm, commonly called a ghost gun, police said.

Anjorin did not have a license to carry firearms or a firearm identification card, according to police. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance, possession of a large-capacity firearm, using a firearm during the commission of a felony, improper storage of a large-capacity firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Worcester police said that a Framingham police K-9 unit also assisted with the search.
